Weekly Michigan Salmon Fishing Report
Casting Thunder stick crank baits, or fishing skein eggs under a float is our preferred methods during the early season. Back bouncing techniques also work very well in the lower sections of the Manistee River.
Massive runs of Chinook and silver Coho salmon ascend the Muskegon, Pere Marquette, and Manistee River from later September through the peak of October. These fish typically range from 12 to 16 pound class, with several approaching the 20 to 30 pound mark. These hard driving freight trains will perform aerial displays and fight for over an hour. Truly big game fishing at it’s best!
Our guides look forward to the early to mid-September on the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee Rivers when the fresh chrome Chinook salmon are pooled up in the deepest runs on the river. Here these beasts are very aggressive in a pre-spawn mode and will crush various crank baits, thunder sticks, or floated skein. Incredible aerial battles ensue with these fresh, bright Great Lakes Salmon!
